Flag of Leinster, Ancient Flag of Ireland
Description

Details

The flag of Leinster, the traditional flag of Ireland, is a golden harp on a green background. This was the historical national flag of Ireland until it was replaced by Republican Tricolour in early XXth century

The oldest historical reference about this flag is the one of the rebellion of the Irish Confederation, occurred mainly in Leinster in 1641. The Harp is a heraldic Irish symbol which oldest reference appears in an Irish coin of the 13th century. Leinster (Laighin in Gaelic) was one of four kingdoms, the kingdom's eastern Ireland, and included the city of Dublin, the historical capital of the island since the Norman unification. At present time Leinster designates the same territory or province in the eastern part of the Island.
